Massage therapy has existed in the United States since 1856, but did you know that it has been used in China as far back as 3000 B.C.? It’s true! In ancient China, massage was viewed as a way to restore one’s physical and spiritual health. The natural healing power of massage therapy still rings true today.
BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY
According to the Mayo Clinic, “Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. While more research is needed to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage may also be helpful for: anxiety, digestive disorders, fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia related to stress, myofascial pain syndrome, soft tissue strains or injuries, sports injuries, and temporomandibular joint pain.” ~ Mayo Clinic
Stress creates imbalance in the body and over the-counter and prescription medicines merely mask our aches and pains. While some of our health issues may be unavoidable, many of our health problems simply stem from stress that has been unresolved. When medical science can’t find a cause for our pain, they often attribute that pain to stress. Easier said than done. Stress is a part of life and some of our stress is simply unavoidable. So what can we do to relieve stress besides eating healthier, increasing our exercise, and taking a vacation? We relieve some of that stress by having a massage done by a licensed massage therapist.
“The fact that the mind rules the body is, in spite of its neglect by biology and medicine, the most fundamental fact which we know about the process of life. ~ Dr. Franz Alexander
PAIN IS A WARNING
Pain is a warning that we need to get our bodies back in to balance. If we want to be healthier and happier, we need to take care of the cause. Whether you have chronic pain, deep tissue injuries, or are just feeling stressed out, massage therapy can help.
“Brush aside any thoughts that massage is only a feel-good way to indulge or pamper yourself. To the contrary, massage can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your health and well-being, whether you have a specific health condition or are just looking for another stress reliever.” ~ Mayo Clinic
